Exploring the Roots of Chicago Queer South Asian Community by NBC Asian American

The video Exploring the Roots of Chicago Queer South Asian Community by NBC Asian American focuses on one individual Ifti Nasim, a co-founder of the first Queer South Asian community in Chicago called Sangat. He realized that people who are similar come together and knew that there needed to be a space for the LGBTQ+ south Asian community in Chicago. He became an idol to many and influenced people to build more of these communities. The rest of the video goes around and looks at people who are a part of this community and how they handle balancing their heritage with their personal beliefs. I think this text is intended for those in a similar situation who feel like they don’t belong, specifically as a part of the LGBTQ+ community who have a heritage that disagrees with their beliefs. It shows them that communities exist, and it is ok not to fit into society’s stereotypes. I also think it shows the need for more of these communities, so everyone can have a place where they feel like they belong.
